Dr. Rony Keppens FOM instituut voor Plasma-Fysica Rijnhuizen P.O.Box 1207 3430 BE Nieuwegein The Netherlands Tel: (+31) [0]30-6096941 Fax: (+31) [0]30-6031204 e-mail: keppens@rijnh.nlBrief Description of Application:
Number of Lines of Code: 6,000
Target Platforms and HPF Compilers Used:
Coding Styles (data decompositions, computational methods):
Extrinsic Interfaces Used (and reasons):
Performance Information, if Available (including any possible comparisons to MPI and/or OpenMP):
With a data layout such that the 2D FFTs are performed embarrassingly parallel, the full 3D MHD code scales almost linear as long as the number of processors is a multiple of the radial resolution. Linear scaling up to more than 100 processors was demonstrated. A detailed performance comparison across the mentioned platforms (vector and parallel) is described in: `Data parallel simulations of the magnetohydrodynamics of plasma loops', R. Keppens, S. Poedts, & J.P. Goedbloed, 1998, in: High Performance Computing and Networking, Lecture Notes in Computer Science vol. 1401, Proceedings HPCN Europe 1998, Sloot P., Bubak M. and Hertzberger B. (eds.), 233-241, Springer-Verlag.
Please comment on any aspects of the application that might be interesting, including any problems using HPF effectively:
